Expedition Provider for The Khumbu

I have been visiting Nepal since the 90s and have been very lucky to be able to establish myself as an expedition provider for The Khumbu (Everest region). When Thomas Worbs contacted me to discuss an Everest summit panorama I was delighted that he felt I might have the necessary skills. It transpires that I didn't! But with his coaching and advice we are now on the verge of realising this project. I have learnt a lot and feel honoured to be a part of this community.

The view as you arrive at Tengboche is amazing. But just a few hundred metres away, along a ridge to the West, you get an even better perspective.

Hillary Viewpoint

An easy trail leads from Khunde to this fabulous viewpoint and, by the looks of it, some 4G reception too!

Khunde Peak is real gem. It's accessible by a steep climb directly from Namche Bazaar or by an easier incline through the woods above Khunde and Khumjung. A great day for an acclimatisation hike.

Dingboche is one of my favourite villages nestled in to a partially hidden side valley and surrounded by some very impressive peaks.

Duglha, situated below the Khumbu glacier moraine, provides a very welcome break before the hill which leads to Lobuche village.

Everest Base Camp

The first respite after the Khumbu Icefall and giving convenient access to the Western Cwm Camp 1 is a quite extraordinary place.

Camp 2 is a semi permanent camp during the Everest climbing season so that the Climbing Sherpas can be looked after whilst they're working hard to established Camp 3 and The South Col.

We had been at C3 for quite a while with clouds swirling around when suddenly it cleared. With no time to waste I hopped out of my tent and got the shots.

This year I decided to go and have a look from the small 8000er knoll with a view on The Triple: Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse.

I have taken my camera and tripod to the summit of Everest many times and eventually the weather permitted a banner. Not a full panorama but still one of the highest resolution photos from the summit.

Having achieved our high point for the day between Camp 2 and 3 I set about getting some photos and found a great spot for a pano.

The forecast was for no wind and no valley cloud before 08:00. So we moved to C3 and then summited from there. It was a very L O N G summit bid but the view was definitely worth it.

Lhotse North Face

This is one of my most memorable mountain days. Tenji and I summited from Camp 3 to avoid the crowds and had the Lhotse Face to ourselves. We were rewarded with blue skies and the most amazing views.

Nuptse Camp 3 is a very special location. It gives a completely different perspective of Everest and Lhotse that no one else sees.

Thame Monastery

The mountain vista is amazing, the monastery is quiet and there's a definite feeling of reverence here; great place to visit and just soak in the atmosphere.

One of the most famous trekking viewpoints in the Khumbu Valley.

Taking a walk around the Dudh Pokhari Lake on our rest day is a fantastic experience and the ever changing views afforded are absolutely spectacular.

Ngozumpa Tsho (5th Gokyo Lake)

Not only did we have great views of Everest but we also saw a Himalayan Wolf just a 100m ahead of us. A very memorable experience.

Beyond Gokyo and above the 5th lake there's a different view of Everest. Well worth the effort if you fancy getting away from the crowds.

Renjo La is a pass located between the valley of Bothe Khosi and Gokyo; well known for this stunning view on Everest and Co.

A quite elevated restaurant in the lonley and beautiful Thame Valley.

Kongma La Campground

I was up very early and it was pretty chilly in my favourite village in The Khumbu ... but I hope that you will agree that the results were worth it.
